Knaack Model 501-H ThermoSteel™ Undershelf Heating Retrofit Accessory
Mounting Instructions for Model 501-H Thermosteel Accessory Kit for up-fitting existing model 79 and 89 piano boxes
Tools Needed:
- 7/16” Socket Wrench
- 7/16” Wrench
Kit Contents:
- (1) Thermosteel Under-Shelf Heater Assembly
- (6) ¼-20 x 5/8” Hex Head Bolt
- (6) ¼-20 Nylon Lock Nut
Installation:
- If available, locate (2) rectangular slots on bottom shelf (models with date code after 01/2016) To determine date of mfg. on your registration decal, the first two digits is the year, and the next 3 are days of the year (Example: 18010 means it was made on 2018, Jan 10th)
- Place Thermosteel Under-Shelf Heater Assembly underneath bottom shelf and insert locking tabs up into shelf slots.
- Pull up on Thermosteel Under-Shelf Heater Assembly until lip secures over edge of shelf. Align holes on the housing to those on the shelf.
- Fasten the unit to the shelf using six ¼-20 x 5/8” long bolts and six ¼-20 Nylon Lock Nuts.
- If slots in shelf are not available, utilize a second person to assist holding the heater assembly in place until the unit is secured with the six nuts/bolts.
- Feed electrical cord up, through rubber grommet on bottom shelf and out back of chest, through power-pass grommet.
Operation:
- Plug electrical cord into power source to turn on Thermosteel Under-Shelf Heater.
- Electrical cord plug will light up when connected to power source.
- Unplug electrical cord to turn off Thermosteel Under-Shelf Heater.

Incorrect use of this product can lead to serious injury or even death. Read and follow all warnings and instructions before operating or using this product.
Using this product above its intended operating temperature of +40 degrees F, can cause overheating of the heater unit and/or damage tools & materials stored above the heater.
- The power connection to KNAACK THERMOSTEEL must be supplied by an extension cord rated for outdoor use and plugged into 3-prong, 120V • GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) protected outlet with proper ground.
- If a GFCI outlet is not available, use extension cord with GFCI protection built in.
- Protect the heater from rain or liquid contact.
- Protect electronics from high surface temperatures directly above the heater.
- Do not touch metal surfaces of heater enclosure or shelf above heater while heater is operating due to high temperatures of these surfaces.
To prevent electrical shock, explosion, fire and serious personal injury when using extension cords with KNAACK THERMOSTEEL:
- This heater must be plugged into a 120V, 15 amp (or more) circuit of its own. Do not plug anything else into the same circuit. If unsure if your power source meets this specification, consult a certified electrician prior to use. Risk of fire, overheating, malfunction, property damage, injury or even death may result if not adhered to!
- Follow all extension cord manufacturer’s warnings and instructions when used with this product.
- Use only 3-wire extension cords with all three prongs intact. Never remove the round grounding prong.
- Check the insulation and plugs of the extension cord before using. Do not use cord if it is worn or damaged.
- Do not overload extension cord (see table below).
- The use of extension cords not marked for Outdoor Use should not be used with KNAACK THERMOSTEEL.
- Do not connect extension cord to an outlet that also supplies critical safety equipment with power.
- Keep flammable materials like paper or rags away KNAACK THERMOSTEEL
- Always unplug the heater when not in use.
- Do not operate any heater with a damaged cord or plug or after the heater malfunctions or has been
- damaged in any manner. Contact Knaack for resolution options.
- Use this heater only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by Knaack may case
- fire, electrical shock, or injuries to persons.
- Do not use abrasive solvents to clean the heater as it may cause damage to the finish or housing.
USE OF YOUR THERMOSTEEL
- *Using long cords with small wire size may lead to overheating of the extension cord and reduced heating of the KNAACK THERMOSTEEL.
